Are Independent Voters "Centrist?"

Centrism
No, nobody is. "Centrism" is a media fiction.

It's a big deal, though, as Krugman points out in The Cult That Is Destroying America:
No, the cult that I see as reflecting a true moral failure is the cult of balance, of centrism.

...we have influential pundits calling out for a new centrist party, a new centrist president, to get us away from the evils of partisanship.
There are quite a few newspaper pieces floating around, hyper-ventilating about Obama's loss of the "left," and that his "centrist" positions are designed to retain the all-important "middle," apparently represented by independent voters and "centrist" Democrats and Republicans.

This is stupid. I am an Independent, and I have positions. Other Independents have opinions, too. They lean left or right. What the hell is the "center?" What does that even mean?

If you want a vote, you take a position. There are no voters who are impressed with a lack of a clear position, which is what this bullshit "centrism" is.

OK, so you have the ability to negotiate? Great, absolutely. To compromise? Not so much. To stake an allegiance to some non-existent "center?" What the fuck is that, Mr. President?

End rant... because I couldn't care less at this point whether or not you get another four years.

Lesser of two evils? I mean what if we ended up with President Bachman?

  2. Hey, FB -

Frankly, I don't know if that would be worse than this Trojan Horse of a President. It would certainly be more entertaining.

Seriously - obvious "crazy" might be easier to contain.

  3. I like to call this one- or two-dimensional politics. It excludes the dynamics of humans and human interaction and and is more dumbed down than its followers believe.

  4. @Braden -

Indeed - and there seems to be a lot of that going around. Economic theory, for example.
